What Christian Counselors Say About Small Groups

Some have said that small group leaders are not qualified to fill the role of Christian counselor; it is best to leave it up to the professionals. I, personally, am not a trained counselor. I have spent some time with Christian counselors, and I have spent time listening and reading what several respected counselors have to say about small groups. I have determined that while small groups and small group leaders may not think they can be Christian counselors, Christian counselors widely say that people they work with need to be in small groups as part of their basic treatment!

As the leader, you can introduce the accountability factor. Just as students study harder when a test is coming up, most people are more likely to stick with a prescribed program if they know they will be held accountable.

From Anonymity to Intimacy

It's a universal dilemma. You have far more people attending Sunday worship services than you have participating in small groups. Why? Is it a flawed ministry structure? Is it a failure of leadership?
