Darryl has led his small group for several months and things have been going relatively well. The group has grown both numerically and spiritually. Darryl has been an effective leader and has been responsible for bringing several of the new people into the group. However, Darryl and his family have decided to transfer to another church. Darryl’s church of origin has a guideline that only church members can lead a small group. Now that Darryl is a member of another church, he’s in an awkward position with his group leadership. His group does not want to see him leave the group and even though Darryl doesn’t want to give up leadership of his group, he knows that’s inevitable
If you were Darryl’s overseer at his previous church, how would you help Darryl handle this dilemma? |
YOUR RESPONSES
Be honest with his coach or pastor about his intentions of leaving. As the coach or pastor, I would suggest that he stay in the group as a participant and allow someone else in the group to lead - chances are there is an apprentice or up-and-coming leader that could take over the role. That alleviates any church policy without breaking up the group.

Do not Leave the original. stay at the Home church find out whats the root issue of Him leaving and help him work it out. explain to him concepts like loyalty, perseverance, and being faithful. If He leaves he will end up being deceive since his small group will be riped apart. If Christ did the ultimate sacrifice for his his church. Daryll can sacrifice for his group and church.
