Darryl's Dilemma Responses
Superficial Discussions

DARRYL'S DILEMMA:

Several members of Darryl’s small group are very superficial during group discussions, while other members of the group go deep and transparent early and often.  Everyone talks, it’s just that the contrast in the level of sharing is so obvious that it creates awkward moments frequently during group gatherings. Darryl has tried to create an environment of safety so sharing can happen freely.  Some have taken that safety for all its worth in their sharing, while others haven’t at all.

If you were Darryl, what would you do in this situation?  How do you encourage some to go deeper, while not pushing the deep sharers to the edge of inappropriate sharing?

YOUR RESPONSES:

Darryl needs to define what are the acceptable levels of disclosure for the group, and having done that, then spend one on one time with folks to learn where they are coming from. Then address it at the next meeting with everyone.
