Leading a small group Bible study requires that the facilitator have some basic understanding of how people best learn truth. While giving information is part of leading people to transformation, it is not the end result we want. Our goal in any Bible study is to lead people to experience a changed life as a result of applying God’s Word to their daily lives. Keep the following principles in mind when you prepare for your next group meeting!

People learn better when they respond actively.
So, ask them to analyze a case study, read in own words, etc …

People learn better when the group leader/facilitator presents truth in a variety of ways.
So, read it, show it play it, etc …

People learn better when they use one or more of their senses.
So, this should include: hearing, seeing, touching, smelling, doing.

People learn better when they repeat what they learn.
So, ask people to preview, review, summarize, brainstorm, report, etc …

People learn better when they move from the simple to the complex.
So, illustrate with stories, Break truth down in simpler words, and Illustrate with well-known facts and ideas.

People learn better when truth is presented in an organized manner.
So, use an outline, present orally or visually the transition from point to point, preview main points.

People learn better when they feel free to respond.
So, use conversational tone, tell personal experiences, begin with icebreaker, use humor, and invite people to share.
