Help your group members value the act of listening as they develop their relationship with God.
Purpose: To help group members value the importance of listening in developing their relationship with God.
Activity:
Tell group members that the goal is to talk loudly and clearly enough to be understood by others. Then have group members find partners.
Tell group members that they will get one minute to tell their partners about their week, but they must speak at the same time. Then signal for group members to begin talking. After one minute, signal for group members to stop talking and tell them to find a new partner. Once everyone has found a new partner, signal for group members to begin talking. After another minute, have group members find a new partner and talk again. Do this for several minutes or until group members cannot find any new partners. Discuss the following debriefing questions.
Debrief:
- What did you learn about the others in the group?
- Were you able to listen to them while you were talking? Why or why not?
- Do you find it difficult to listen for God's voice? Why or why not?
- How often do you sit silently and listen for God's voice?
- How can we be still and listen for God to speak to us?
