Ask your group members to list as many qualities or characteristics of God as they can. Then compare your lists, noting overlaps and new insights.
Take some time to look up Bible passages that explain or demonstrate each attribute mentioned. You may want to have study Bibles and a concordance available for this. Your group may find that some of the attributes they listed are not found in the Bible while others are more prevalent than they thought.
This process allows everyone to be involved, develops a deeper appreciation for God, and even may help point out some common perceptions that don't have a biblical basis.
You can also type up the list of attributes and references to distribute at your next meeting.
Discuss:
- What was this activity like for you?
- Which attributes immediately came to mind? Why?
- Which ones are new to you?
- Which attributes resonate with you most? Why?
Leader note: You may want to follow up this time with a worship song or a time of prayer lifting up these attributes to God.
