Purpose: To help group members learn about the importance of receiving and showing appreciation
Supplies Needed:1 piece of paper per person, markers
Activity: You will need to meet in a room with easy access to the light switch. Give each group member a piece of paper and instruct them to draw their own faces with the lights turned off for fun and challenge. Everybody will be giggling by the time they're finished.
After 5 minutes, collect all the papers and shuffle. Turn on the lights and let each person pick one sketch, guess who drew it, and write positive qualities of that person. The objective is not really to have the right guess or make the best sketch, but to show appreciation for each person. As a facilitator, make sure that everyone gets appreciated. Prepare adjectives for any person who won't have somebody guessing their name.
After 5 minutes, ask the following questions:
Unpacking Questions
- How does it feel to be appreciated?
- As you receive appreciation, how do you feel about others who haven't received words of appreciation yet?
- How do you feel when you need to wait to be appreciated?
- What are possible ways you can show appreciation to others?
